Family:

Steve’s Father was the captain of the USS Anderson, after two years as that ships captain, he and his crew were killed at the battle of Wolf 359. Steve’s Grandfather was a captain on the constitution class vessel Kersarge, till his retirement from Starfleet when badgered to take a position in the admiralty.

But Steve considers his old crew members from the Iron Horse his true family. Jimmy MacLennon, Sara Andrews, Matt Lancaster, and Cara Duell.

The hardy, rag-tag group that shared so many adventures, smuggling and trading their way to the next day. One day they could be having a drink a starbase near Risa, the next they could be racing past Romulus.Dr.

Allan Vreeland [Father] [Deceased]
Kara Pann-Vreeland [Mother] [Deceased]
Robert Vreeland [Brother] [Deceased]
Gordon Vreeland [Grandfather] [Deceased]

Personality:

Erratic, and at some times takes risks for the greater good. trust worthy and a good friend to have on your side.

There's no other word for it, Steve is hotheaded. He gets an idea, he sticks to it. Not a change for his mind in sight. This isn’t so bad, because usually, any idea he gets is the right one. He's got a good head on his shoulders that boy.

Smartest engineer I ever did see. High praise. He can get ahead of himself sometimes, but will shortly get back on track. Only one reprimand I have to put in his file. A lieutenant with a broken jaw. I learned later that the lieutenant had ordered Steve to make a modification that could've resulted in a power backlash and possibly an explosion.

Steve recognized this, and didn't follow the orders, and took a correct course of action, but the lieutenant apparently "Wouldn't shut up." So I have a lieutenant in sickbay with a shattered jaw.

When not on duty, Steve was constantly found in the canteen, chatting up women, and telling wide-eyed cadets about things he's seen.

All and all, Steve was invaluable here, as much as I hate to lose him, he deserve a chief position on a starship. And he has my recommendation.

Commander Will Briggs
Chief of Operations
McKinley Station - Earth

History:

Steve was born on May 14, in Detroit Michigan, To Allen and Kara Vreeland. Second of two children, with his brother, Robert, born two years earlier. Dr. Allan Vreeland was captain of the Medical ship Kearsarge serving active duty for 7 years as her commander. Kara Vreeland was a leading researcher at a science firm in San Francisco.

Steve's Grandfather, Gordon Vreeland retired a Starfleet Commodore. He for many years had commanded the Excelsior Class ship, Constitution, serving with distinction and honor. He died accidentally in a boating accident on Earth a few years after Steve was born. So Steve has a relatively good background as far as Starfleet goes.

The good ends there, at the age of six, Steve was struck with a rare neurological, and biological disorder. An alien pathogen was slowly killing him. Eating up his left arm at a painfully slow and deliberate rate. Steve’s father spent many sleepless nights trying to discover what was wrong with his son. In a final move of desperation, with days before the pathogen started to attack Steve's heart, infected his son with a modified strain of the Borg nano-virus.

Altered to only attack and take over the mutated cells, the nano-virus quickly took over and infected Steve's entire left arm. This had a huge impact on Steve's life. After his father was killed in the battle for Sector 001, Steve shrank away from his childhood. Being shunned for what he was, Steve retreated into learning. Reading everything he could on both Engineering and the Borg.

At the age of 13, is an expert on both subjects. At that age, he could already put any Starfleet engineer through their paces. At 15, he's hired by his brother Robert, new owner of the Iron Horse. At that time the Iron Horse was a bucket of bolts. Barely able to make warp 6, it was nowhere near what it is today.

Steve has put in around a thousand hours of work into the little ship over the years. Years pass, Robert leaves to join start a family, not wanting to keep them cramped on such a tiny ship. Steve takes over as commander of the Iron Horse. Years of supply running keep Steve content. He keeps this up until he learns of an epidemic on the colony where his mother had been living for the past few years.

He loads up and leaves in a few hours. He makes a mistake and flies too close to the Badlands, near Cardassian space. He suffers a cataclysmic engine failure, and is nearly killed as the Iron Horse falls out of warp. He was then captured by Cardassians. Gul Enor holds him captive for the next four years, under the charges of being a spy, and for those years Steve endured torture for nearly the whole time.

Having endured this as a child, Steve stayed sane, but when rescued by Federation forces, is found to be little more than animal. It takes almost a year before Steve is back to his old self. He then learns that the colony his brother lived on was completely destroyed by Reptilian force, he nearly lapses again to learn his whole family is dead. Then is hit by the Federation with 36 counts of smuggling, port fees, pilotage, and other fines, enough fines to lock him up for another four years.

Steve pleas out and takes the probation of working for Starfleet. He goes to the Academy, at the age of 31, oldest in his class. Steve studies directly under professor Montgomery Scott. Steve serves his field internship as an NCO on McKinley Station. He then graduates 3rd in his class, 1st in his department.

Afterwards is immediately offered the position of Chief Engineer aboard the USS Manetheren C, a newly constructed Sovereign class star ship. Since then he's risen through the ranks, recovered His old ship, the Iron Horse, and single-handedly finished the Yorktown Carrier project. Steve doesn't know what he's going to do in the future, whether he will stay with the Manetheren, take a spot in command, or take an offer to work at Starfleet R&D, we expect great things.

Interests:

Steve rebuilds old engines, having rebuilt the one on the Iron Horse at least six times. In his spare time he’s starting to take up blacksmithing on the holo deck.  Steve likes it best when he’s banging about fixing things.
